This evening, rockets fired by the Hezbollah terrorist organisation from Lebanon struck the Druze village of Majdal Shams in northern Israel, killing mostly children who were playing in a playground. Hezbollah launched dozens of rockets into Israel, resulting in the tragic deaths of ten people, with over thirty others injured. This heinous act marks a serious escalation in Hezbollah’s ongoing aggression, which indiscriminately targets civilians, whether they be men or women, Jew, Muslim, Christian, or Druze.

Since October 8, Hezbollah has been launching attacks against Israel with the sole purpose of aligning with Hamas in their assault on Israelis. Despite Hezbollah’s denials, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed, based on their assessments and intelligence, that the rocket fire on Majdal Shams was carried out by Hezbollah. The IDF stated, “Hezbollah is behind the launch of the rocket that hit the soccer field in Majdal Shams, causing many civilian casualties, including children, earlier this evening.”

The South African Zionist Federation (SAZF) condemns this attack in the strongest terms and calls on the South African Government to denounce it unequivocally. We stand in solidarity with the victims and their families during this tragic time and urge the international community to take decisive action against such acts of terror.
